As per the latest reports, the UK Parliament criticised New Zealand for not condemning the inhumane treatment meted out to the Uyghurs in the Xinjiang province of China.
In a historical debate, the British Parliament denounced the Beijing government for inflicting wrongdoings on Uyghurs and termed its harsh treatment as a genocide and crimes against humanity.
It must be noted that it was for the first time in the history of the House of Commons that all the MPs voted for the motion on the Uyghurs’ case and passed the motion without any disagreement.
MPs expressed frustration during the discussion over New Zealand's clear aversion to extending the Five Eyes alliance's remit beyond information sharing.

The Five Eyes Alliance comprises the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, with its earliest origins traced down to March 1946 in the aftermath of Second World War. Regarded as the world’s prime intelligence alliance, the Five Eyes was formed to co-operate in signals intelligence (SIGINT).
New Zealand Maintains A Diplomatic Stance With China
NZ government pointed out the increasing interference of the Five Eyes alliance and maintained a diplomatic relationship with its Beijing counterpart.
New Zealand’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Nanaia Mahuta, signalled that the alliance should work on issues pertaining to its realm and considers the Uyghurs treatment as China’s internal matter.
It must be noted that China is New Zealand’s largest trading partner.
Hua Chunying, China's spokesperson, alleged that the Five Eyes had ganged up against the country when in 2020, Marise Payne, Australia's Foreign Minister, had issued a statement on the discussion on critical supply, Hong Kong, and coronavirus by the Five Eyes group members.
