What is Chainlink?

Chainlink is an Ethereum token that powers the Chainlink decentralized oracle network. The network enables the Ethereum smart contracts to securely connect to the external data sources, APIs, and payment systems. In addition, it provides critical off-chain information required by the complex smart contracts to become the dominant form of digital agreement.

This Chainlink network is operated by an open-source community comprised of data providers, node operators, contract developers, and others. The firm intends to guarantee decentralized participation for all node operators and users willing to contribute to the network.

The firm was founded in 2017 by Sergey Nazarov, the current CEO of Chainlink Labs.
