 13 Stocks Set To Join TSX Composite Index Coming Week!

The benchmark Canadian index, S&P/TSX Composite, is all set to add 13 companies from Monday, March 22, 2021. This index represents around 70 per cent of the total market capitalization on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX).

With this move, the index will now have 231 members. Earlier, the index underlined the performance of 250 companies but had dropped down to the current 219 members. 

The Major Additions?

There are three major additions to the index, which comprises of two weed companies, namely OrganiGram Holdings Inc. (TSX:OGI) and Village Farms International Inc. (TSX:VFF). The third one is a lithium mining company called Lithium Americas Corp. (TSX:LAC).

In one year, the stock prices for Organigram went up by 112 per cent. In the case of Village Farms, the stock surge was a whopping 422 per cent in one year.

The Canadian resource company, Lithium Americas operates in the western US and Argentina. In one year, the stock prices for this company soared and increased by 445 per cent. 

What are the other changes?

For S&P/TSX 60, there will be no change. This index is for select large-capital stocks. 

Apart from the additions, there's one deletion too. Lundin Gold Inc. (TSX:LUG), which operates in Ecuador and does its corporate activities in Canada, will not remain in the composite index. 

What is the composite index enter criteria?

To be a part of the composite index, float-adjusted market capitalization must be 0.04 per cent of the total value of the S&P/TSX Composite Index.

Any company which is less than six months old on the TSX cannot enter the index. In case, the float-adjusted market capitalization drops below 0.025 per cent of the total value of the index then it can't stay on the benchmark bourse.
