Siona Discovery Suggests Potential in Larger Mineralised Gold System: Yandal Resources (ASX:YRL)

Highlights

  • Yandal Resources' (ASX:YRL) Siona discovery demonstrates mineralisation continuity and the potential to be part of a larger, complex gold system within the Ironstone Well-Barwidgee Gold Project.
  • Initial results from 2,900 metres of RC drilling reveal multiple mineralised zones and continuity along 450 metres of strike.
  • Further drilling in 2025 targets broader mineralisation potential across the New England Granite, with an initial 4,000-metre program underway.

Yandal Resources Ltd (ASX:YRL) has completed its 2024 reverse circulation (RC) drilling program at the Siona Gold Discovery, located within the Ironstone Well-Barwidgee (IWB) Gold Project in Western Australia. A total of 14 RC holes covering 2,900 metres have yielded assays suggesting that Siona may represent a fraction of a larger, mineralised system.

The assays show continuity of mineralisation over a strike length exceeding 450 metres, primarily aligned with the granodiorite-basalt contact. Additionally, multiple mineralised zones extend over 100 metres into the footwall of this contact, highlighting structural complexity within the host rock.

Yandal Resources' Managing Director, Chris Oorschot, highlighted the encouraging results, noting the strong mineralisation continuity, the variety of styles observed, and the additional mineralised structures within the footwall. The team's belief that Siona represents only a portion of a more extensive system is reinforced by these findings.

Prominent Drilling Results

Recent RC drilling southeast of the initial discovery area confirmed the granodiorite-mafic contact's mineralisation, with key intercepts including:

  • 26 metres at 0.5 g/t gold from 267 metres (estimated true width: 14–20 metres).
  • 18 metres at 0.7 g/t gold from 141 metres (estimated true width: 10–16 metres).
  • 24 metres at 0.4 g/t gold from 202 metres (estimated true width: 10–16 metres).

Additionally, significant mineralisation was observed within the footwall:

  • 7 metres at 1.9 g/t gold from 179 metres, including 2 metres at 6.2 g/t gold from 184 metres.
  • 31 metres at 0.4 g/t gold from 211 metres, with internal waste zones.

These findings underline the presence of multiple mineralised zones, suggesting a complex gold system within the New England Granite's broader framework.

Next Steps in Exploration

To build on the 2024 drilling success, Yandal Resources has initiated a 2025 RC drilling campaign targeting structural anomalies north of Siona. This program, encompassing 4,000 metres, aims to define the extent of primary mineralisation across the granitic host and identify additional gold-bearing zones.

The company's exploration strategy also includes a diamond drilling program, scheduled to commence in January 2025, which will provide crucial geological data. This data will aid in refining models for Siona and other areas within the New England Granite.

Broader Project Context

The New England Granite target area, spanning 4.2 kilometres by 2 kilometres, lies within the Yandal Greenstone Belt. This belt is strategically positioned between Northern Star's (ASX:NST) Bronzewing and Jundee mining complexes, two of the region's significant gold production hubs.

The Siona discovery's proximity to these established mining operations adds to its strategic importance and potential contribution to the region's gold output.

Anticipated Developments and News Flow

Yandal Resources has outlined a series of key activities in the near term, including:

  • Results from aircore drilling at the Caladan target area, expected shortly.
  • Results from aircore drilling at the Irulan target area, anticipated by late January 2025.
  • Initial outcomes from the 2025 RC drilling program targeting New England Granite, expected by February 2025.
  • Commencement of diamond drilling at Siona in January 2025.
  • Interpretation and release of soil sampling data from the broader Caladan target area.

Positioned for Growth

As Yandal Resources progresses its exploration efforts at the IWB Gold Project, the company enters 2025 with a robust cash position and a well-defined drilling strategy. The combination of RC and diamond drilling, coupled with ongoing soil sampling and aircore programs, underscores the potential of the Siona discovery and its surrounding regions to deliver substantial resource growth.

With a steady pipeline of exploration milestones, Yandal Resources remains focused on uncovering the full extent of the New England Granite's gold system and advancing its position in Western Australia's gold sector.
