- Initial drilling reveals significant copper mineralization at Tambo South.
- Belararox continues deep exploration within the TMT project in Argentina.
- Early results align with the company’s high-sulphidation epithermal model.
Belararox (ASX:BRX) has encountered visual signs of copper mineralization at unexpectedly shallow depths during its ongoing drilling campaign at the Tambo South prospect, part of its Toro-Malambo-Tambo (TMT) project in Argentina. This promising development was observed above the main geochemical target depth, which has yet to be reached in the current drill program.
The company is currently drilling the second hole of the campaign, which has reached a depth of 729 meters out of a planned 1,300 meters. Notable findings include significant occurrences of copper sulphides such as supergene chalcocite, covellite, chalcopyrite, and hypogene chalcocite above the anticipated target depth.
Initial assays from the first 224 meters of the first hole have reported copper concentrations, including 30 meters at 0.13% copper from 102 meters and another 30 meters at 0.10% from 154 meters. Results for the remaining 804.6 meters are expected soon, which could provide further insights into the mineralization profile at Tambo South.
The copper mineralization at this site is believed to be hosted within a range of porphyritic intrusions, including dacite, porphyritic diorite, quartz diorite, and hornblende diorite. The presence of covellite and hypogene chalcocite supports Belararox’s exploration model, which suggests a high-sulphidation epithermal system overlying a copper porphyry system.
Belararox is optimistic that the section from 104 meters to the current depth of 729 meters might indicate more robust copper mineralization further below, a hypothesis that will be tested as drilling progresses to greater depths.
Additionally, drilling at the Malambo target, another component of the TMT project, is progressing smoothly. The first drill hole there reached a depth of 1,166 meters, revealing extensive quartz veining and visible molybdenite, an encouraging sign for copper-gold porphyry systems. A second hole has commenced and is aimed at testing the shallower Halley geochemical model with a planned depth of 600 meters.
Arvind Misra, Managing Director of Belararox, expressed enthusiasm about the early results, stating, "Tambo South is a key target within our broader TMT project, which lies in a largely unexplored yet highly prospective corridor between the world-class El Indio and Maricunga Metallogenic Belts." Misra highlighted the significance of these findings, emphasizing their potential to propel the company's exploration efforts and deliver substantial value to its shareholders as deeper geological targets are explored.
