Highlights

  • Bayan initiates detailed study of Desert Star rare earth targets
  • Integration of advanced datasets for targeted exploration
  • Parallel progress on gold, silver, lithium projects

Bayan Mining and Minerals (ASX:BMM) has begun a detailed desktop study on its Desert Star project, located in California’s eastern Mojave rare earths district. While not part of the top ASX100, the company is leveraging advanced geophysical and geological data to identify new exploration targets.

The Desert Star project encompasses two tenement blocks—Desert Star and Desert Star North—situated within a structurally complex corridor favourable for rare earth elements (REE), gold, and antimony mineralisation. Its location near the well-known Mountain Pass REE project and the Colosseum gold mine underscores its strategic geological positioning.

Advanced Data Integration for Target Refinement

Historical high-resolution airborne magnetic, gravity, and radiometric datasets acquired by the US Geological Survey cover the Desert Star area in full. By integrating these with regional gravity and magnetotelluric profiles, Bayan gains valuable subsurface context to support exploration planning.

The company is combining aeromagnetic, gravity, radiometric, and Sentinel-2 satellite imagery with ongoing geochemical reconnaissance to sharpen its understanding of the project area. This analysis will guide the definition of high-priority drill targets for upcoming exploration phases.

Parallel Progress on Multiple Projects

Alongside Desert Star, Bayan is advancing several other projects. At Bayan Springs in Nevada, field teams have collected samples from structurally favourable corridors known for gold, silver, and antimony mineralisation. Early findings suggest mineralisation consistent with Carlin-style systems, prompting follow-up geochemical programs.

In southern Brazil, the Pepita gold project underwent a surface sampling campaign to validate historical data from the Brazilian Geological Survey. Although no anomalous zones were observed, the work provided valuable geological insight.

Meanwhile, in Canada, Bayan’s Arrel lithium project has seen mapping across three pegmatite targets, identifying multiple dykes in high-grade metamorphic settings. These findings contribute to the company’s multi-commodity exploration portfolio.

With rare earths attracting increased strategic attention in the United States, Bayan’s Desert Star project is positioned within a key district. The integration of advanced geological data with methodical fieldwork reflects the company’s systematic approach to resource exploration.
