  • Andromeda Metals hits breakthrough in low-emission HPA production
  • New method shows potential for cost and carbon efficiency
  • Demand for high purity alumina expected to outpace supply by 2028

Andromeda Metals (ASX:ADN), a South Australian mineral explorer, has marked a major milestone in its pursuit of high purity alumina (HPA) production with a low-emission process that could reshape the critical minerals market. The breakthrough emerged from successful lab-scale test work conducted by EAG Eurofins USA, producing HPA of over 99.99% purity from refined kaolin sourced from Andromeda's flagship Great White project.

Recognised as a critical mineral in Australia since 2022, HPA is a key material used in the production of synthetic sapphire, which plays a vital role in high-tech sectors such as semiconductors, LED lights, lithium-ion batteries, and advanced ceramics. The new process developed by Andromeda is not only achieving the required purity levels but is also designed to be significantly less carbon-intensive and more cost-effective compared to traditional aluminium alkoxide hydrolysis methods.

This innovation is the result of more than seven years of intensive research, investigation, and metallurgical work. The company’s refined process opens up a strategic path to expand its value-added product offerings while still focusing on the core development of the Great White project. The ability to produce HPA using a method that reduces both costs and carbon emissions presents a compelling proposition for manufacturers relying on this critical material.

The advancement comes at a time when global demand for HPA is forecast to surpass supply by as much as 45% by 2028. This imbalance is being driven by rapid technological advancements and growing reliance on sustainable and high-performance materials in industries around the world.

Andromeda Metals is preparing to advance this development through a scoping study and is currently engaging with potential customers to tailor the product form, crystalline structure, and morphology to meet specific industrial applications. In addition, the company is exploring options for government support to accelerate its commercialisation efforts.

This strategic move aligns with the broader momentum within the S&P/ASX 200, where innovation in resource development plays a key role in Australia’s economic outlook. For investors following ASX dividend stocks, Andromeda's efforts underscore the long-term value potential of critical mineral ventures in a market primed for technological transformation.
