Andromeda Metals (ASX:ADN) has fortified its leadership by appointing senior mining executive Jean-Dominique (JD) Sorel as a non-executive director. With over four decades of experience, Sorel brings unparalleled expertise in mining, marketing, and operational leadership across international industrial minerals markets.
Sorel previously served as Chief Operating Officer at Traxys Sarl, where he played a pivotal role in expanding the company’s base metals and industrial minerals operations over 16 years. His tenure saw the development of substantial activities within these sectors, solidifying Traxys’ global presence.
In a statement, Andromeda highlighted the strategic importance of this appointment, underscoring Sorel’s extensive knowledge of the industrial minerals sector as a valuable addition to the board. His experience is expected to complement Andromeda’s ongoing efforts to progress the Great White Project (GWP) in South Australia.
Strengthening Strategic Partnerships
Andromeda recently entered into a binding offtake agreement with Traxys for the supply of its Great White CRM™ and Great White HRM™, covering up to half of the production capacity from GWP. This deal marks a significant milestone in the company’s plans to commercialize its products in global markets. The inclusion of Sorel on the board signifies a deepening of the strategic partnership between the two organizations.
Sue-Ann Higgins, Andromeda’s executive chair, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, “Jean-Dominique’s insights and leadership in industrial minerals markets will be a crucial asset as we advance towards key milestones for the Great White Project.”
A Proven Track Record
Sorel’s impressive credentials include leadership roles at Metaleurop S.A., where he managed commercial activities, and Usinor Group, now part of ArcelorMittal, overseeing non-ferrous metals purchasing. His tenure at Amax, Europe S.A., involved monitoring nickel ore properties in New Caledonia and coordinating European and Middle Eastern iron ore sales.
A Columbia University graduate with a Bachelor of Sciences and an MBA, Sorel also served as Traxys’ legal representative in China and Hong Kong.
Transition in Leadership
With Sorel’s arrival, Austen Perrin will step down from the board by January 2025, ensuring a smooth transition. Perrin’s contributions, particularly during the company’s CFO vacancy, were acknowledged with gratitude by Higgins, who extended best wishes for his future endeavors.
Andromeda’s strategic focus remains on driving the Great White Project forward while strengthening its leadership and global partnerships.
