Highlights

  • Lithium Universe (LU7) secures a logistics agreement to streamline operations at the Bécancour lithium refinery in Quebec.
  • Collaboration with Servitank focuses on supply chain optimization and operational efficiency.
  • Agreement includes evaluating innovative storage solutions and sustainability initiatives.

Lithium Universe (ASX:LU7) has made a significant advancement in its efforts to address the 'Lithium Conversion Gap' in North America. The company announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Quebec-based logistics provider Servitank to support its Bécancour lithium refinery operations. This partnership is set to enhance supply chain efficiency and strengthen access to critical markets.

Servitank brings its expertise in supply chain management and multimodal logistics, providing support for the transportation and handling of essential chemical products required for the refinery. With its extensive experience in logistics across the Bécancour and Trois-Rivières regions, Servitank is poised to optimize the delivery of critical materials and reduce operational complexities.

Supply Chain Optimization

Servitank specializes in streamlining logistics for industries dealing with chemicals and raw materials. By employing innovative strategies, the company aims to minimize costs and time for its clients. As part of the agreement, Servitank will explore the construction of dedicated storage tanks for specific reagents and implement trucking logistics to deliver key chemicals directly to Lithium Universe's site. This approach will simplify the supply chain and improve overall efficiency.

Developing Sustainable Solutions

In a joint effort, Lithium Universe and Servitank are assessing sustainability initiatives that include potential partnerships within the local industrial ecosystem. The companies are investigating opportunities to repurpose alumina silicate by-products through collaborations with cement companies. Additionally, they are exploring storage and transportation solutions for sodium sulphate, which could find applications in the pulp and paper industry.

Servitank’s sister company, Somavrac, will also contribute advanced bagging machinery and bulk storage capabilities, further optimizing material handling processes. This collaboration aims to align operational practices with sustainability and resource efficiency goals.

Driving the Bécancour Refinery Vision

Lithium Universe is focused on establishing the Bécancour refinery as a key producer of green, battery-grade lithium carbonate. The refinery is designed to produce substantial quantities annually, contributing to the growing demand for sustainable lithium solutions in North America.

According to the company's chair, the agreement with Servitank marks a significant step in identifying a single logistics supplier capable of managing most chemical reagents. This partnership is expected to drive operational efficiency and enable the company to achieve its vision for the Bécancour refinery.

With a strong focus on innovation, sustainability, and local collaboration, Lithium Universe continues to progress toward its goal of bridging the lithium conversion gap in North America.
