Australia-based integrated building services company Johns Lyng Group Limited (ASX:JLG) announced on ASX today (17 October 2022) that it has been engaged by the Victorian Government’s Emergency Recovery Victoria (ERV) to provide assistance to people impacted by the ongoing flood tragedy in Victoria.

Currently, it is anticipated that 34,000 Victorian residences will either be flooded or left alone in the upcoming days and weeks, and at least 24 local government agencies will be affected.

Meanwhile, at 3:57 PM AEDT, the JLG shares were trading 1.337% up at AU$6.060 apiece on ASX.

Talking about this appointment, Nick Carnell, CEO, Johns Lyng Group, said:

Carnell added to his statement by saying that in difficult times like these, Johns Lyng is prepared to help Victorians; the company will work relentlessly with ERV to make things easier for Victorian people.

As this crisis develops, it's critical that resources are mobilised quickly and efficiently. The business has the expertise and experience necessary to fully mobilise for a disaster of this magnitude. A few of the examples are Johns Lyng’s ongoing operations in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales and Southeast Queensland as well as the Victorian storms in June 2021.

He further stated that it is too soon to assess the scope of this task. Johns Lyng’s first and topmost priority will be to make sure that everyone affected by this catastrophe in Victoria are safe and secure. Once that is done, the company and the state will begin the recovery process.

A glance at Johns Lyng assistance in Victorian storm damage recovery

Last year on 5 July, Johns Lyng signed a deal with the State of Victoria to do clean-up and make-safety work on private homes that were destroyed during violent storms in Victoria.

Under this deal, Johns Lyng was put in charge of cleaning storm and flood-damaged areas with Bushfire Recovery Victoria (BRV) while making sure they were ready for restoration and redevelopment. The deal commenced on 4 July 2021.

These storms left significant damage to about 39 local government areas (LGAs). The Australian Federal Government and the Victorian State Government pooled AU$55.5 million to fund the first phase of construction, which concentrated on private buildings.
