AML3D (ASX:AL3), a key innovator in industrial 3D printing, has inaugurated a new advanced manufacturing facility in Stow, Ohio, U.S., as part of a strategic push to strengthen defense and technology capabilities across the AUKUS alliance. The new site, representing a critical development in the company's U.S. expansion strategy, is designed to manufacture large-scale metal components using its proprietary Wire-Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAM®) technology.
This cutting-edge facility will play an essential role in supplying critical parts for the U.S. Navy’s Virginia-class submarine program. By leveraging the unique benefits of WAM®, AML3D can deliver complex, high-strength metal components with improved efficiency, reduced lead times, and less material waste compared to conventional manufacturing methods.
The Ohio operation aligns with the broader geopolitical agenda of the AUKUS partnership, which includes Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Through its support of submarine production and defense technology, the new site reinforces the trilateral agreement’s goal of boosting security collaboration and industrial self-reliance. The advanced systems installed at this location also contribute to the U.S. Navy’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence, enabling further research and development into next-generation defense manufacturing.
In terms of economic impact, the Stow facility is expected to generate new employment in the region, creating roles for engineers, technicians, and manufacturing experts. AML3D is also collaborating with local academic institutions to develop training programs aimed at equipping the local workforce with skills in advanced manufacturing technologies.
This move represents the first step in AML3D’s larger North American strategy, positioning the company to scale operations across defense, aerospace, and energy markets. With demand increasing in these sectors, AML3D is exploring additional U.S.-based sites to meet future capacity needs.
The development is also significant in the context of the ASX200, which includes some of the most influential and innovative Australian-listed companies. AML3D’s participation in this index highlights its strategic importance and growing international presence.
With this investment, AML3D is enhancing its role as a contributor to allied defense readiness, supply chain resilience, and cutting-edge technological progress, while establishing itself as a transpacific force in next-gen manufacturing.
