  • Recce Pharmaceuticals (RCE) secures a new patent in Japan, extending protection until 2041.
  • Japan’s pharmaceutical market ranks third globally, with rising demand for anti-infective therapies.
  • Patent covers RECCE® 327 and RECCE® 529, targeting bacterial and viral infections across multiple treatment applications.

Recce Pharmaceuticals (ASX:RCE) has further strengthened its intellectual property portfolio with a significant milestone: the approval of a new patent from the Japan Patent Office. The patent, part of Patent Family 4, extends protection until 2041 and follows prior grants in Australia, Canada, and Israel. With additional Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) submissions in progress, the company continues to expand its footprint in key global markets.

Japan, the world’s third-largest pharmaceutical market, accounts for approximately 5% of the global pharmaceutical industry. The country’s antibiotic resistance sector is projected to reach US$411.3 million (AU$647M) by 2030, growing at a compound annual rate of 6.1% from 2024 to 2030. This growth underscores the increasing demand for innovative treatments, particularly in combating antibiotic-resistant infections.

The approval of this latest patent strengthens Recce’s strategic expansion into high-value markets, ensuring intellectual property protection in a region with significant healthcare needs. The company’s proprietary anti-infective solutions, including RECCE® 327 (R327) and RECCE® 529 (R529), are designed to address a broad range of infections, positioning them as valuable assets in the fight against bacterial and viral diseases.

“We are encouraged by the Japan Patent Office’s formal recognition of Recce’s new class of anti-infectives,” said Recce Pharmaceuticals CEO James Graham. “Global patent protection underscores our commitment to addressing critical unmet medical needs with innovative therapies. We are well-positioned to deliver meaningful solutions for patients worldwide.”

The patent covers various aspects of RECCE® anti-infectives, including the process for preparation, method of administration, and their application in treating a wide array of conditions. The approved claims extend to treatments for acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI), diabetic foot infections (DFI), burn wounds, lung infections (such as ventilator-associated and hospital-acquired pneumonia), urinary tract infections, gonorrhea, influenza, and SARS-CoV-2.

The administration methods outlined in the patent include oral, inhalation, transdermal delivery, and injection via intramuscular or intravenous routes. Additionally, the patent covers applications such as aerosol, gel, topical foam, ointments, and dressing-impregnated formulations for direct skin or mucous membrane treatment.

With this latest achievement, Recce Pharmaceuticals (RCE) continues to strengthen its presence in the global pharmaceutical landscape, reinforcing its position as a leader in next-generation anti-infective solutions.
