Race Oncology Expands Clinical Reach
Race Oncology (ASX:RAC) has officially opened its first clinical site in Hong Kong for the Phase 1 trial of RC220, a treatment being studied for advanced solid tumours. The move marks a significant step in the company’s broader strategy to expand international participation. This development follows earlier enrolments in Australia and adds momentum to Race’s growing clinical network. The progress also comes as global investors keep a close eye on the ASX 200, where leading biotechnology companies continue to drive attention with research-driven milestones.
Trial Focus on RC220 in Solid Tumours
The Phase 1 trial is designed to assess RC220 in combination with doxorubicin. Key objectives include evaluating safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics, as well as identifying the optimal dosage level. Initial recruitment in Hong Kong has begun, with Queen Mary Hospital already active and another major site, Prince of Wales Hospital, preparing for activation soon.
This multi-site approach provides Race Oncology with the infrastructure to broaden patient enrolment while maintaining careful oversight on trial progress.
Progress in Australia and South Korea
While Hong Kong represents a new frontier, Australia has already contributed to the trial, with patients enrolled at Southside Cancer Care Centre. Recruitment in South Korea is also expected to support the trial’s advancement by expanding the eligible patient pool.
These regional contributions underscore the importance of collaboration across different healthcare systems, ensuring that patient access and trial efficiency are prioritized.
Multi-Stage Trial Design
The study is structured in stages, beginning with dose escalation to establish the maximum tolerated level of RC220 in combination with doxorubicin. This is followed by a second stage aimed at refining the dosage further while assessing safety, tolerability, and early activity signals.
By adopting a flexible trial design, Race Oncology can adapt to ongoing findings while pursuing insights into both anticancer effects and potential cardioprotective benefits of RC220.
Looking Ahead
The activation of the first Hong Kong site highlights Race Oncology’s commitment to advancing cancer research through global collaboration. As additional sites come online, the company strengthens its clinical position while expanding the scope of its RC220 program in advanced solid tumours.
