Prescient Therapeutics (ASX:PTX), a clinical-stage oncology company developing targeted, personalised therapies for cancer, has announced the appointment of James McDonnell as its Chief Executive Officer, effective January 20, 2025. With more than two decades of experience in the global pharmaceutical industry, McDonnell is poised to bring strategic leadership to advance Prescient’s innovative cancer treatment pipeline.

McDonnell has built a distinguished career specialising in blood disorders and haematological malignancies, including myeloma and chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML). His expertise stems from leadership roles in key organisations such as Pharmion and CSL Vifor. At Pharmion, where he led Global Marketing, he was instrumental in strengthening the oncology and haematology portfolio, contributing to the company’s US$2.9 billion acquisition by Celgene Corporation (NASDAQ:CELG).

Following his success at Pharmion, McDonnell joined CSL Vifor, a renowned pharmaceutical company focused on areas such as patient blood management, nephrology, and rare diseases. As the global commercial lead, he played a significant role in driving enterprise-wide strategic initiatives and expanding global reach. Notably, during his tenure as Vice President and General Manager for CSL Vifor Australia and New Zealand, McDonnell’s leadership coincided with remarkable revenue growth across core portfolios.

A registered pharmacist and a member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, McDonnell’s academic background includes a Graduate Diploma in Marketing from Monash University and completion of the Australian Institute of Company Directors program. His combined scientific and business acumen positions him to lead Prescient Therapeutics through its next phase of growth and development.

Prescient Therapeutics (PTX) is at the forefront of oncology innovation, focusing on tailored treatments to address specific cancer types. The company’s pipeline includes therapies designed to improve outcomes for patients with complex and rare cancers. With McDonnell’s proven track record of delivering commercial success and fostering high-performing teams, the leadership shift aligns with Prescient’s mission to transform cancer treatment through personalised solutions.

As the company prepares for this strategic leadership transition, the appointment reflects its commitment to strengthening its position in the oncology sector while driving clinical advancements.
