Australia-based private health insurer Medibank Private Limited (ASX:MPL) reported on Wednesday (9 November 2022) that the hackers who had broken into Medibank’s system posted the stolen files on a dark web forum. This data comprises customer information that was stolen from Medibank’s systems in October.

According to Medibank, this data features personal information of its customers, like their names, addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers, and email addresses. The data also has the Medicare numbers of ahm customers, passport numbers of international students, and some health claims data.

Meanwhile, the shares of the company were spotted trading at AU$2.815 apiece, up 1.258%, at 11:09 AM AEDT on the ASX.

Medibank, on 7 November, shared that personal data of around 5.1 million Medibank customers had been stolen by the cybercriminal. This data does not include credit card or banking details. It stated that post 12 October 2022, there has not been any suspicious activity in the company’s systems.

Share price performance of Medibank

MPL shares have shed 0.87% in the last five trading days on the ASX. In the last month, the shares have lost around 20%. In the last six months, MPL shares have shed 12%, and in the last year they have dropped 17.11%. The company’s shares have depreciated in value by 10.28% in the last five years on the ASX (as of 11:37 AM AEDT).
