Highlights

  • Strategic Partnership: Dimerix Ltd (ASX:DXB) collaborates with FUSO Pharmaceutical Industries to develop and commercialise DMX-200 for FSGS kidney disease in Japan.
  • Exclusive Rights: FUSO secures exclusive development, registration, and commercialisation rights in Japan, covering all clinical trial costs.
  • Milestone Payments: Dimerix to receive up to ¥10.5 billion (A$107.1 million) in payments, including royalties, through the agreement.

Dimerix Ltd (ASX:DXB), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, has entered into an exclusive development and license agreement with FUSO Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd to advance the development and commercialisation of its kidney disease drug, DMX-200, in Japan. The partnership marks a significant milestone in addressing the needs of patients suffering from focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), a rare kidney condition with limited treatment options.

Under the terms of the agreement, FUSO will hold exclusive rights to develop, register, and commercialise DMX-200 in Japan. The Japanese pharmaceutical company will assume responsibility for all clinical trial costs within the country. This agreement aligns with Dimerix's broader strategy of leveraging partnerships to expand its global footprint while maintaining commercialisation rights in key territories.

Financial and Development Milestones

The agreement positions Dimerix to benefit from up to ¥10.5 billion (A$107.1 million) in milestone payments. These payments span upfront fees, development milestones, and royalties on future sales. The financial terms underscore the confidence in DMX-200’s potential as a treatment for FSGS and reflect FUSO’s commitment to supporting the drug's development in Japan.

DMX-200 is currently undergoing global Phase 3 clinical trials, with a blinded interim analysis scheduled for August 2025. The candidate has garnered significant attention as a promising solution for managing FSGS, a condition that often leads to progressive kidney failure.

Dimerix’s Retained Rights

Dimerix will retain commercialisation rights for DMX-200 in all territories not covered by existing agreements with FUSO, Advanz Pharma, and Taiba. This strategic approach allows the company to explore additional opportunities for the drug's development and distribution, ensuring its availability to a broader patient population.

Comments from Leadership

Dr. Nina Webster, CEO and Managing Director of Dimerix, highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership with FUSO. She noted that FUSO brings extensive experience in pharmaceutical development, sales, and marketing across Japan, particularly in the renal disease sector. The collaboration reflects confidence in the potential of DMX-200 and reinforces Dimerix’s capabilities in drug development.

FUSO's expertise is expected to play a crucial role in advancing DMX-200 toward regulatory approval and market introduction in Japan. The partnership aims to provide a much-needed treatment option for patients with FSGS, offering hope to those who currently face limited alternatives.

Broader Implications

The agreement between Dimerix and FUSO highlights the growing focus on international collaborations in the pharmaceutical industry. By leveraging FUSO's local expertise, Dimerix can expedite the development process while ensuring the drug meets the regulatory and clinical standards specific to Japan.

This partnership serves as a significant step forward in the journey to address unmet medical needs in kidney disease treatment. As the Phase 3 clinical trials progress, DMX-200 continues to hold promise as a groundbreaking therapy for FSGS patients worldwide.
