ANZ, CBA, NAB, WBC: How are these 'big four' banks performing on ASX?

Highlights: 

  • The banking sector has been volatile in the recent past due to the impacts of the RBA interest rate hike. 
  • ASX 200 Banks index (XBK) was trading 0.06% lower at 12:46 PM AEST on ASX today. 

Majority of the S&P/ASX 200 sectors were trading in the red territory today (July 26) at 11.44 AM AEST.  The ASX 200 Financial sector was however, spotted in green during the morning trading hours. 

The S&P/ASX 200 Banks sector (INDEXASX:XBK) was spotted trading 0.06% lower at 2513.6 points at 12:46 PM AEST on ASX today (26 July). The ASX Banks sector has fallen 4.58% in the last 12 months. On a year-to-date basis, the Banks sector has gone down 5.92% on ASX as of 12:46 PM AEST today.

The S&P/ASX 200 Financial sector (INDEXASX:XFJ) was up 0.08% or 4.9 points to 6153 points at 11:44 AM AEST on ASX today (26 July).  

The financial sector has been highly volatile for the past few weeks due to rising inflation and the interest rates hike by RBA. In this article we will discuss about the  performance of the Australian 'big four' banks - ANZ, Commonwealth Bank, National Australia Bank, and Westpac.    

Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ASX:ANZ) 

Shares of Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ASX:ANZ) were spotted trading 1.193% higher at AU$22.89 per share at 11:09 AM AEST on ASX today (26 July). 

ANZ was recently in the news after it acquired the banking operations of Suncorp (ASX:SUN). 

In last 12 months, ANZ's share price fell over 16% on ASX. Furthermore, on a YTD basis, ANZ's share price fell over 17% (as of 11:09 AM AEST on  ASX today, 26 July).  

Commonwealth Bank of Australia (ASX:CBA) 

Shares of Commonwealth Bank of Australia (ASX:CBA)  were spotted trading in red today. The CBA shares are down 0.288% and were trading at AU$97.9 per share at 11:12 AM AEST. 

Commonwealth Bank's share price marked a loss of 2.54% on the ASX in a year, while its share price fell by 5.75% on YTD basis (as of 11:12 AM AEST today)

National Australia Bank Limited (ASX:NAB) 

National Australia Bank Limited (ASX:NAB) shares went up 0.083% at AU$29.895 per share at 11:18 AM AEST on  ASX today (26 July).

National Australia Bank shares marked a gain of 15.25% on the ASX in a year, while NAB's YTD-based share price went up 1.68% (as of 11:18 AM AEST on the ASX today). 

Westpac Banking Corporation (ASX:WBC) 

Westpac Banking Corporation (ASX:WBC) shares gained 0.760% to AU$21.21 per share at 11:21 AM AEST on the ASX today (26 July). 

Westpac's shares have lost plunged around 14% on the ASX in the last one year. Westpac's YTD-based share price fell almost 2% (as of 11:21 AM AEST on the ASX today, 26 July).
