Highlights

  • HyTerra confirms hydrogen and helium presence at McCoy 1 well
  • Deeper drilling provides critical exploration insights
  • Flow-testing program scheduled for further assessment

HyTerra (ASX:HYT) has confirmed the presence of hydrogen and helium in its McCoy 1 exploration well at the Nemaha project in Kansas. The development adds to the growing interest in energy exploration, a space that continues to attract market attention alongside other ASX 200 stocks.

Mud gas samples collected from the well recorded meaningful concentrations of both gases, reinforcing earlier discoveries from nearby drilling activities. These findings mark another milestone for the company as it seeks to establish a strong position in the industrial gas sector.

Deeper Drilling and Geological Insights

McCoy 1 is the deepest well drilled by HyTerra to date, extending beneath layers of sedimentary rock into Pre-Cambrian basement structures. This advancement has provided valuable geological insights, building on learnings from previous wells.

The well sits on more than three thousand acres of contiguous land in Kansas, located near a major interstate highway. This strategic position is seen as advantageous for potential future development and distribution.

Importantly, Kansas has a history of being one of the leading producers of helium in the United States, making the elevated helium concentrations recorded at McCoy 1 significant for future resource potential.

Conversion to Appraisal Well

Following drilling, HyTerra has converted McCoy 1 into an appraisal well using a workover rig. This step involved removing drilling fluid to prepare the well for further testing. The company now plans to evaluate whether the well is naturally fractured and capable of inflow similar to earlier wells in the region.

These results will shape the design of an upcoming production test program, which will be crucial to determine steady-state gas flow and composition. HyTerra’s approach incorporates learnings from past wells, aiming to improve cost efficiencies and exploration effectiveness.

Looking Ahead

The confirmation of hydrogen and helium at McCoy 1 reflects HyTerra’s continued progress in developing its exploration portfolio. With flow-testing on the horizon, the company remains focused on strengthening its understanding of the resource base while positioning itself for long-term development opportunities.
