Basin Energy’s Strategic Expansion
Basin Energy (ASX:BSN) is strengthening its exploration footprint in Queensland with plans to acquire critical minerals explorer NeoDys. The move positions the company to fast-track drilling across uranium and rare earth element (REE) prospects in the Mount Isa region. With growing interest around resources central to the clean energy transition, the company’s latest step adds scale and diversity to its portfolio, drawing attention from market participants often tracking ASX 200 companies.
Landholding in Mount Isa
Through the NeoDys acquisition, Basin Energy will gain access to a substantial land package in northwest Queensland. The project area is strategically located adjacent to Paladin Energy (ASX:PDN) and Red Metal Limited (ASX:RDM), both of which have established uranium and rare earth discoveries in the region. This positioning allows Basin Energy to benefit from proximity to proven deposits while pursuing new exploration opportunities of its own.
Early Drilling Priorities
Basin Energy has identified several drill-ready targets within its new ground. These opportunities include uranium prospects resembling the style of the nearby Valhalla system, as well as rare earth targets hosted in a mix of sediment, ionic clays, and granites. The company’s upcoming work will involve reverse circulation drilling aimed at understanding continuity across anomalies and unlocking the broader geological potential of the region.
Leveraging Government Support
The acquisition also provides Basin Energy access to an existing Queensland government exploration funding agreement. This support will play a role in advancing initial programs, including air core drilling, geological mapping, and radiometric sampling. By building on this foundation, the company seeks to accelerate progress on its highest-priority uranium and rare earth prospects.
Path Ahead
To further support its exploration roadmap, Basin Energy is also securing additional funding through a planned capital raising. The funds will be directed toward advancing multiple drill programs, particularly targeting uranium and granite-hosted rare earth systems. With these resources in place, the company is positioned to actively progress exploration while expanding its role in Australia’s critical minerals sector.
