Janus Electric (ASX:JEV) is taking a powerful step into the future of sustainable freight transport, with a vision to electrify Australia’s heavy-duty trucking industry. Through a patented battery-electric conversion system, the company is transforming diesel trucks into zero-emission vehicles — while maintaining uptime and trimming operating costs.
At the heart of Janus Electric’s strategy is its unique battery-swapping technology. Instead of waiting for long charge cycles, converted trucks can quickly exchange depleted batteries for fresh ones at specialized stations along fixed freight corridors. According to the company, this approach results in estimated operating savings of AU$0.20 per kilometre.
Managing Director Ian Campbell revealed that Janus Electric already has 142 confirmed truck conversion orders, part of its goal to capture 1% of the prime mover market in Australia — approximately 800 trucks. These conversions not only extend the lifespan of existing diesel fleets but also provide a more cost-efficient path to electrification for logistics companies.
To support its growing ambitions, Janus has opened Australia’s first electric truck manufacturing facility in the Central Coast region of New South Wales. The company also plans to scale its presence through future dealership rollouts in South Australia, Western Australia, Victoria, and potentially across the United States.
Following a successful reverse takeover (RTO), Janus Electric is set to receive AU$8.8 million in funding. These funds will be directed toward building battery infrastructure, expanding inventory, and scaling operations. The business model generates revenue from both upfront vehicle conversions and recurring subscriptions tied to battery access and services.
Strategically locating battery swap stations along key freight routes is central to Janus’s vision. This placement maximizes utility and minimizes downtime, improving the economics of electric freight transport.
As Australia’s market for clean energy vehicles evolves, Janus Electric’s progress aligns with broader trends in the S&P/ASX200, where innovation and sustainability are increasingly prioritized by listed companies.
For income-focused market participants, Janus Electric’s long-term infrastructure and subscription-based model may also appeal within the broader landscape of ASX dividend stocks — particularly as the transport and energy sectors continue to shift toward cleaner alternatives.
With momentum building, Janus Electric is shaping up to be a notable name in the transformation of heavy transport, driving sustainability across Australia's highways and potentially, beyond.
