VRX Silica Limited (ASX:VRX) has provided an update on the environmental approval process for its Arrowsmith North Silica Sand project. In early January, the company announced that the Environmental Protection Authority of Western Australia (EPA) had published its assessment report for the project development proposal and recommended it to the Minister for Environment
This publication initiated a three-week period for appeals.
In its latest update, VRX reported an appeal by the Conservation Council of WA (CCWA), challenging multiple aspects of the proposal as outlined in the EPA report.
The Office of the Appeals Convenor will now investigate the matter on behalf of the Minister for Environment, gathering input from the EPA, VRX, and other relevant stakeholders. Once the investigation is complete, the Appeals Convenor will prepare a report for the Minister for Environment, who will then determine the appeal.
VRX has until 3 March 2025 to submit its response to the appeal. However, there is no defined statutory timeline for resolving the appeals process.

VRX remains committed to advancing the necessary permitting and approval processes, including those from the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW).
