Highlights

  • Catalina Resources has commenced RC drilling at its Laverton Project in Western Australia to test high-grade REE and gold targets.
  • The site lies less than 2km from Lynas Rare Earths' world-class Mt Weld deposit.
  • The drilling program targets a previously reported high-grade REE intercept, including 9m @ 7,565ppm TREO with 4m @ 13,406ppm (1.34%)
  • The program also targets gold mineralisation, following up on results from hole LVAC049, which intersected 28m @ 1.09g/t Au, including 1m @ 9.69g/t.

Catalina Resources Ltd (ASX:CTN), an Australian diversified mineral exploration and mine development company, has launched a reverse circulation (RC) drilling campaign at its Laverton Project (E38/3697), located within the mineral-rich Laverton Gold Province in Western Australia. The program aims to test high-grade rare earth element (REE) and gold targets, building on encouraging results from previous aircore drilling.

The drilling site lies less than 2 kilometres from the world-class Mt Weld REE Mine, owned by ASX-listed Lynas Rare Earths Ltd.

Rare Earths in Focus

Earlier aircore drilling at Laverton intersected anomalous REE mineralisation within a broader gold target zone. A significant intercept was reported from hole LVAC037, located on the southernmost aircore traverse, with a 4m zone exceeding 10,000ppm total rare earth oxides (TREO).

The REE assays from LVAC037 include concentrations of up to 0.3% neodymium and praseodymium (NdPr), resulting in a notably high NdPr:TREO ratio. This ratio mirrors the geochemical signature of the nearby Mt Weld carbonatite-hosted REE deposit, which hosts a resource of 54.7 million tonnes at 5.3% TREO (Duncan R. K. et al., 1990).

The RC drill program will target this previously reported high-grade REE intersection.

Gold Exploration to Continue

In addition to rare earths, Catalina is targeting gold mineralisation across the same tenement, following results from previous aircore drilling along the Barnicoat Shear Zone, a regionally significant structural corridor.

Promising results include:

The current program will test higher-grade gold mineralisation in fresh rock, beneath the supergene gold mineralisation previously identified in the oxide profile.

CTN Shares Rally

Triggered by the update, CTN shares jumped 66.67% to trade at AUD 0.005 per share at the time of writing on 16 July 2025.
