Diageo acquires renowned coffee brand, Mr Black

  • Diageo announced on 29 September that it has acquired the famous Australian cold brew coffee brand, Mr Black.
  • Mr Black was established in 2013 by designer Tom Baker and distiller Philip Moore. The brand is quite popular in the United States.  
  • Tom Baker, one of Mr Black's founders, would continue to be an active part of the company even after the execution of the acquisition.

Multinational beverage company, Diageo, On 29 September 2022, announced that it has successfully completed the acquisition of the Australian cold brew coffee liqueur brand, Mr Black. Mr Black was founded by the designer Tom Baker and distiller Philip Moore in the year 2013.

Within a short span of nine years, Mr Black opened up 12,000 bars and restaurants across 22 countries globally.

As per Diageo, Mr Black has witnessed a huge growth and has become one of the 'leading and 'premium-priced' coffee in the United States by applying modern coffee brewing techniques and sourcing good quality to reinvigorate coffee cocktail culture. Mr Black also catered to customers' desire for premium coffee cocktails such as espresso, martini and other old-fashioned types of coffee, Diageo said.

After the completion of this acquisition, Mr Black will join the group of big alcohol companies run by Diageo. These alcohol companies feature scotch whisky label Johnnie Walker, dry stout brand Guinness, cream liqueur Baileys, vodka giant Smirnoff and many others.

Although Mr Black will be operated under Diageo now, the update confirmed that Tom Baker, the founder of Mr Black, would continue to remain an active part of the business in future.
