Highlights:

  • Flagship Minerals is advancing the Pantanillo Gold Project in northern Chile with a focus on a long operational life.

  • Work includes converting existing foreign estimates into a JORC-compliant resource and conducting metallurgical testwork.

  • Previous metallurgical studies show high gold recoveries from heap leach processing methods.

Flagship Minerals (ASX:FLG), listed on the ASX, is engaged in progressing its Pantanillo Gold Project located in northern Chile. The project is situated within the Maricunga Gold Belt, a region known for significant gold mineralisation. Flagship Minerals seeks to establish a long-term gold production framework through systematic resource development and project advancement.

Focus on Resource Development and Compliance

Flagship Minerals plans to define sufficient mineral resources to support the development of Pantanillo through open pit mining and heap leach processing. Efforts are directed toward converting the existing foreign mineral estimates into a resource that complies with the JORC Code. Work programs will include validation of historical drillhole data, confirmatory drilling, infill drilling, and extensional drilling activities.

The company has a market capitalisation of approximately thirteen million Australian dollars and prioritises activities that will increase the size and confidence of its resource base. In addition to drilling, other project studies and supportive workstreams are being undertaken to strengthen the technical foundations required for future project evaluation.

Metallurgical Testwork and Heap Leach Strategy

Flagship Minerals has completed a review of previous metallurgical testwork carried out on the Pantanillo Project. The review confirmed that high gold recoveries were achieved from cyanidation processes applied to crushed oxide material. Results from column leach testing indicated gold recoveries above eighty percent within relatively short leach periods, with further improvement over longer durations.

Future plans include confirmatory heap leach testwork aimed at supporting financial modelling and guiding the optimisation of processing parameters. This aligns with the company's focus on oxide mineralisation, which is intended to facilitate a lower capital expenditure approach and simpler operational setup compared to more complex processing routes.

Operational Advantages of Oxide Heap Leaching

The management of Flagship Minerals highlighted the operational simplicity associated with heap leach processing. The method involves straightforward mining operations consisting of drilling, blasting, loading, trucking, stacking, and irrigating with leach solutions. The exhausted heaps at the end of mine life present a manageable closure scenario, and the approach significantly reduces the need for tailings facilities.

Water and energy consumption requirements for oxide heap leach operations are also lower compared to alternative processing techniques. These factors are critical for project economics and environmental management in mining operations located in remote areas such as northern Chile.

Project Overview and Existing Resource Base

The Pantanillo Gold Project hosts a mineral resource estimate of several million tonnes of ore with grades reflecting moderate gold concentrations. The project area benefits from prior exploration activities, which have delineated substantial gold inventories. The advancement of the Pantanillo Project represents a key initiative for Flagship Minerals as it seeks to build a strong foundation in the gold production sector.
