Black Canyon (ASX:BCA) secures new tenement applications through Ndalamo Platinum acquisition
Expansion increases footprint across the Wandanya Project and Balfour Manganese Field
Ongoing exploration efforts aim to define manganese-rich outcrops across new zones
Black Canyon Limited (ASX:BCA), a company focused on manganese exploration and development, operates within Western Australia’s Pilbara region. As part of the broader ASX 200, the company’s project portfolio is gaining visibility in the resource sector. This week, Black Canyon announced the acquisition of Ndalamo Platinum, a privately held entity holding key tenement applications directly south and north of the existing Wandanya Manganese Project.
The acquisition will increase the footprint of Black Canyon’s presence across the Balfour Manganese Field, allowing the company to expand its exploration and development scope across the newly secured areas.
Acquisition Terms and Strategic Fit
The transaction is being executed under a binding share sale agreement, with Black Canyon planning to issue shares and options to complete the deal. The agreement is subject to a due diligence period and the formal granting of tenements within the year.
According to management, the move is a strategic consolidation of its ground position within a region already known for outcropping manganese mineralisation. The newly acquired applications lie along the same stratigraphic horizon as the main Wandanya discovery area.
Company representatives noted that outcrops extend southward onto the Ndalamo-held ground, offering continuity for future fieldwork. The integration of these tenements is expected to streamline geological targeting for future drilling campaigns.
Exploration Activities Advance at Wandanya South
At Wandanya South, Black Canyon has commenced surface sampling activities, with several rock chip samples already submitted for laboratory analysis. These samples were collected from iron and manganese-enriched outcrops mapped across the site. Results from the assays are pending and will be used to inform upcoming exploration plans.
The manganese-bearing structures observed at Wandanya South are part of a broader regional trend, further supporting Black Canyon’s exploration focus. The presence of mineralisation over multiple strike lengths could reinforce the project's future prospects.
Further Work Planned Across Multiple Pilbara Tenements
Beyond the Wandanya corridor, Black Canyon is also undertaking preliminary evaluation at the Nicholas Downs and Black Hills tenements. These areas, situated within the same geological region, have recorded multiple occurrences of manganese-rich zones. Detailed geological and sampling work is scheduled to assess the broader mineral system and define targets for further field activity.
Exploration outcomes from these areas are intended to feed into a long-term regional plan for manganese development in the Pilbara. Data collected from these programs will assist in modelling and refining the approach for additional work across the newly expanded project area.
Role of Manganese in Critical Minerals Outlook
Manganese has long served an essential function in steel manufacturing, where it is primarily used to increase durability, resist abrasion, and reduce corrosion in alloy production. However, recent trends in battery technology have shifted focus toward manganese’s role in clean energy applications.
As part of Australia’s broader All Ordinaries and ASX 300 indices, manganese-focused explorers such as Black Canyon are positioned within a sector experiencing global transition. Though export volumes may fluctuate due to the approaching end-of-life of established mining operations, the demand from battery manufacturing remains on an upward trajectory.
