Great Southern Mining Limited (ASX: GSN), the Western Australian gold explorer, has announced commencement of the aircore drilling program at the entire Cox’s Find Project area.
The shallow geochemical aircore drilling would be carried out on the entire tenement on a 100 by 50-metre grid pattern.
The au courant audience must know that the Cox’s Find is within the Burtville Greenstone Belt and on one of the hottest mining grounds, which hosts the Regis’ mega multi-million ounce Garden Well discovery in close proximity.

Aircore Drilling Program – To Confirm Near-Surface Gold Mineralisation Potential
The aircore drilling program aims to develop a better interpretation of geological information and complete a geochemical dataset for the entire Cox’s Find project region. Covering drilling of almost 500 shallow holes on a 100 by 50 metre grid over the entire project area, the program is crucial, confirming its potential to hold near-surface gold mineralisation.
The vehicle mounted Aircore/Rotary Air Blast Drill (RAB) rig would collect samples from 1 to 6 metres in depth. Deep soil loose heterogeneous samples free from any potential surface contamination, from the superficial layer would be collected and sent for further analysis.
In addition, samples by hand would be collected under the aircore drilling program, in regions where drilling is not possible to cover the entire tenement area at Cox’s find.

Sampling and Assaying – To Facilitate in Identifying Targets
Samples would be assayed and analysed for gold and associated elements with gold mineralisation of this style.
The drilling program aims to-
- Identify mineralisation and structural trends over the tenement area
- Gathering of complete geochemical dataset which will assist surface lithological interpretation, especially, identification of the prospective Cox’s Find formation
- Determine the magnitude and focus of hydrothermal alteration to identify near-surface gold mineralisation that does not outcrop at the surface
The surface geochemical program results, in combination with insights from the recent structural mapping, would facilitate prioritising and scheduling targets for the future exploration targets. The program outcomes are expected by the end of March and would be used for scheduling advanced deeper drilling program on the regional targets.
GSN traded at $0.050 a share at 3:15 PM AEDT on 2 March 2020, with a market capitalisation of $16.66 Million.
To sum up: Great Southern Mining seeks to explore the strong and high-grade mineralisation at Cox’s Find, which presents the possibility of near-surface and high-grade gold ores (~22 g/t Gold during historic operations) in the prominent gold belt hosting to multiple gold projects and operating mines.
