Which are the top communication stocks on NYSE, NASDAQ?

Communication stocks have performed well in 2020 and are expected to continue that momentum this year. For example, communication ETF ‘The Communication Services Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLC)’ has given nearly 43% return in one year, whereas S&P 500 gave around 36% return in one year.

Here we explore six communications stocks in the US.

Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ:CMCSA) is a media and technology company engaged in three businesses segments: Comcast Cable, NBCUniversal, and SKY. Comcast Cable revenue comes from providing video, voice, broadband, wireless, and security and automation service from residential and business customers. NBCUniversal revenue comes from media, studio and theme parks and SKY revenue from providing direct-to-consumer services as Comcast cable.  

Comcast has a market capitalization of US$267.5 billion and a P/E ratio of 23.02.

Its revenue was US$ 27.2 billion, and net income was US$ US$ 3.33 billion for March quarter 2021, reporting a 2% increase in revenue and 55% increase in net income year-over-year. Its earnings per common share diluted were US$ 0.71 for March quarter 2021 from 0.46 a year ago.

CMCSA stock price grew 48% in one year at the closing price of US$ 58.23 on July 8, 2021.

DISH Network Corporation (NASDAQ:DISH) is Englewood, Colorado-based company engaged in the satellite television business. Its two segments are Pay-TV and Wireless. The wireless segment has further two business units, 5G network deployment and Retail Wireless.

Its market capitalization is US$ 21.35 billion and a P/R ratio of 10.45.

For the March quarter of 2021, the company earned revenue of US$ 4.5 billion and net income of US$ 630 million, a growth of 40% in revenue and 762% in net income attributable to common shareholders, year-over-year. Earnings per common share diluted were US$ 0.99 in 2021, compared to US$ 0.13 in the March quarter of 2020. 

DISH stock gave around 31% return in one year. It closed at US$ 40.45 on July 8, 2021.

Zoom Video Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:ZM) is a communication platform provider connecting people through voice, video, chat, and content sharing. ZOOM market capitalization is US$ 113.74 billion and a P/E ratio of 133.11.

For the first quarter ended April 30, 2021, its revenue was US$ 956 million, and net income was US$ 227.38 million, reflecting a growth of 192% in revenue and 741% in net income attributable to common shareholders. Its EPS diluted was US$ 0.74 for the April quarter of 2021 compared to US$ 0.10 the previous year.

At the end of June, the company announced to acquire Karlsruhe Information Technology Solutions; a start-up focused on real-time Machine Translation (“MT”) solutions development. 

Its stock price jumped 43% in one year at the closing price of US$ 386.01 on July 8, 2021.

Shaw Communications Inc. (NYSE:SJR) is a Calgary, Alberta based cable company that provides internet, T.V. and landline telephone services in Canada.

It has a market capitalization of US$ 14.27 billion and a P/E ratio of 20.44.

For the third quarter ended May 31, 2021, SJR reported revenue of CA$ 1.38 billion, a 4.8% growth year-over-year. Its net income was CA$ 354 million, showing a 92% rise year-over-year. Its earnings per share diluted increased from CA$ 0.35 to US$ 0.70 year-over-year in the May quarter of 2021.

Its stock has witnessed a 77% growth in one year. It closed at US$ 28.63 on July 8, 2021.

Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) provides communications, IT & entertainment products and services to consumers. It has a market capitalization of US$ 230 billion and a P/E ratio of 12.21. Its dividend yield is 4.44%, and the annualized dividend is US$ 2.51.

For March quarter 2021, Verizon’s revenue was US$32.87 billion, a 4% increase from last year’s corresponding quarter. Its net income attributable to common shareholders was US$ 5.25 billion, a 26% increase year-over-year. Earnings per common share diluted were US$ 1.27 for Q1, 2021, compared to US$ 1.00 in the same quarter in 2020.  

This week, Diamond Landscapes was able to recover US$ 500,000 worth of trucks and trailers using VZ’s fleet management software platform. 

VZ stock gave around 3% return in one year despite facing many ups and downs. It closed at US$55.68 on July 8, 2021.

Pinterest, Inc. (NYSE:PINS) is a unique online platform for product and idea discovery on varied subjects ranging from clothing, cooking to travel. The company was founded in 2010. It caters to a primarily female audience.  

PINS has a market capitalization of US$ 48.32 billion and a forward P/E 1 year of 843.11.

Its revenue for the first quarter ended March 31, 2021, was US$ 485 million, and net loss was US$ 21.67 million reflecting a growth of 78% in revenue and a decrease in the loss by 85% from a net loss of US$ 141 million in the March quarter of 2020. 

Its stock price gave a 177% return in one year. They share close at US$ 75.88 on July 8, 2021.
