This series of short courses gives beverage production professionals the operations management knowledge and tools required to succeed in the modern workplace.

The Institute of Brewing and Distilling (IBD), the most widely recognised provider of technical education in the beverage industry, has launched a brand new series of, self-assessed and on demand technical courses on operations management.

The Operations Management courses are the latest in a series of hugely popular Continuing Professional Development (CPD) short courses for brewers, distillers and packaging professionals. They are aimed at beverage production professionals wanting to improve their operations management knowledge or progress their career in a management role.

The Operations Management short course series breaks operations management down into these individual topics:

Quality Management
Operations Strategy and Planning
Project Management
Production Management
Financial Management
Supply Chain Management
World Class Manufacturing
Lean Operations

The courses are available individually or with a 25% discount if you buy the whole series. Each subject is covered in detail, from first principles, in a way that is easy to digest and most importantly applicable to the day-to-day life of a beverage production professional.

The Operations Management short course series provides the same technical excellence found in all IBD qualifications, without the need to take a formal exam.

Each course features text, videos, animations, quizzes, and online games to help enhance learning. At the end of each course, learners receive a Certificate of Completion. They can also download a document summary of the course contents for future reference.

On this announcement, Kathryn Thomson Head of Education and Professional Development said

” After the successful launch of our dry hopping, and gin production short courses earlier this year, I’m delighted that we are launching another short course in 2024, this time on operations management.

This is especially important as we transition to Chartered status and are creating more opportunities for people to engage in professional development and real world learning. This series of short courses is invaluable for anyone who wants a detailed and clear overview of the different aspects of operations management. They can be used as a refresher to confirm your existing knowledge or as a springboard to find out more, and perhaps study for one of our formal qualifications.

I’ve done this course myself and found it incredibly useful for my day job, especially the modules on quality management and financial management. If you would like to have more short courses in the future, then let us know what topics would be the most beneficial for you."
