Highlights
- BOM issued critical weather warnings for Eastern Asia at New Year’s Eve.
- Melbourne can hit 38C, making it the second hottest day in 2021.
- Fire services will work as per events following the severe heatwave warnings
Australia will likely enjoy a bright and cheerful New Year’s Eve as the Eastern Seaboard expects to witness a temperature rise around the 30C mark. But the cheerful, sunny weather might not be as pleasant as expected because elevated fire danger levels across South-Eastern Australia can impact the New Year’s Eve celebrations.
While it is expected to be sunny in Sydney, Darwin will witness some storms, and Perth will likely see more hot weather; it is yet not clear to determine the exact weather conditions in the country.
The heatwave in WA is likely to ease on Thursday, but other parts will feel its effects. Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) is forecasting critical heatwave conditions in SA through Victoria, including parts of Tasmania, towards the weekend.
If Melbourne hits 38C on New Year’s Eve, it would be the second hottest day in 2021, as per BOM.
Heavy rains, high tides, flooding, and strong winds are expected to hit the Eastern Coast. Although there’s no rain forecast, Queensland and Northern Territory are likely to witness showers for most of the day.
Bottomline
As BOM has already predicted a severe heatwave towards New Year’s Eve, fire services would be on their toes. However, this can’t guarantee whether the celebrations will be cancelled or modified.
