A man has been charged over the bashing of a festival-goer in Victoria's southwest.
A 41-year-old man was assaulted on Saturday night while lining up to catch an organised bus home from Music in the Vines, a one-day festival outside Macarthur near Warrnambool.
A dispute broke out between people waiting in line, police said.
Three Portland men were arrested. A 48-year-old man was charged on Sunday with recklessly causing serious injury, recklessly causing injury, unlawful assault, and affray.
The two others were released pending further inquiries.
The victim, from Penshurst, was flown to Melbourne's Alfred Hospital with critical head injuries.
His condition has since improved to stable, a hospital spokesman told AAP on Monday.
In a statement, Music in the Vines organisers said they had been in contact with the man's family and offered their full support.
"Our sixth running of the festival was one we as a committee were extremely proud of, with patrons enjoying our family-friendly event," festival president Pieter Badenhorst said.
"It is extremely sad that such an unfortunate incident has occurred."
