Misadventure deaths stack up at Christmas

A number of Australians have lost their lives in tragic accidents over the Christmas period, including a man who was hit by a falling tree branch and another who was crushed by a ride-on lawnmower.

*Monday, December 26

- Two men in their 60s died after their "experimental" foreign-registered single-engine aircraft crashed into bushland at Appin, south of Sydney, sparking a small bushfire.

- The body of a Taiwanese man who went missing on Christmas Day was recovered from a lake at an abandoned mine site in Western Australia, rated one of the state's top 10 Instagram spots.

* Tuesday, December 27:

- Two teenage girls died in a boating incident in Tamworth in northeastern NSW. The pair were being towed behind a boat on an inflatable when they hit a tree stump.

- A 51-year-old man died in a ride-on mower crash in Victoria's Kinglake Central. It's believed the ride-on lawn mower flipped and the driver was ejected, becoming pinned underneath. 

- Police are investigating the circumstances in which a man believed to be 25 years old was shot and killed at a property in NSW's Hunter region, about 20km east of Cessnock.

- The search continues for a swimmer who reportedly did not resurface while in the Murrumbidgee River ar Wagga Wagga, with multiple assets including helicopter and swift water rescue scouring the area.

* Wednesday, December 28:

- A 70-year-old Queensland man died after being struck by a falling branch in Tarraleah, in Tasmania's Central Highlands, as wild winds lashed the area.
