From former First Lady Melania Trump to El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele paid rich tribute to Bitcoin’s 13th anniversary this week.

Bitcoin (BTC) was up 0.79% to US$46,287.06 on Tuesday evening, a day after its anniversary celebrations. The global crypto market was up 1.60% to US$2.23 trillion, as per coinmarketcap.com.

Melania used the tweeter hashtag: "Happy Anniversary, #SatoshiNakamoto #MelaniaNFT" to celebrate the occasion on Monday. The second hashtag relates to her non-fungible tokens (NFTs) launched last year.

"Today marks the 13th anniversary of the Bitcoin Genesis Block," she tweeted with an accompanying photo of bitcoin's genesis block, the first on bitcoin's blockchain.

Melania has nearly two million followers on her Twitter page. Her cozying up with the digital assets had surprised many, given her husband Donald Trump's anti-crypto stance.

Still, Trump congratulated her at the launch of her NFT, a digital artwork titled "Melania's Vision" on Dec 17, saying it embodies the "American spirit of ingenuity, creativity, and entrepreneurship".

Melania's NFT is a watercolor art denoting her blue eyes designed by Marc-Antoine Coulon. She also promoted her NFT to celebrate bitcoin’s anniversary.

Close on the heels, she also unveiled another collection titled "Head of State" on Tuesday. One of the NFTs was also designed by Coulon.

Meanwhile, El Salvadorian President Nayib Bukele speculated the cryptocurrency will hit US$100,000 in 2022. He expected two more countries would adopt Bitcoin as legal tender.

What is Bitcoin's genesis block?

Genesis is the only block, unlike others, without a block preceding it. Hence, it is also called "block 0".

Many fans view genesis as the key to identifying Bitcoin’s mysterious inventor Satoshi Nakamoto because the block was minted on Jan 3, 2009, and possibly, it is Bitcoin’s birthday.

How others paid tribute

Cointelegraph had gathered messages from various industry players to celebrate the occasion.

Brokerage firm Galaxy Digital’s vice president Beimnet Abebe described Bitcoin’s release as “monumental” that not only gave access to the scarce digital money but also opened the doors to the next-gen web transformation.

Arca Funds vice president Hassan Bassiri said Bitcoin opened the eyes of everyone to how big the crypto assets can grow. More entrants would join the market in coming years, he said.
