Summary

  • Apple is expected to launch two new products by the end of this year, according to media reports: an adaptation of the famous HomePod and first over-ear high-quality headphones with Apple signature.
  • Apple will hold a new event on 13 October, where the Company is expected to show what it has in the original production.
  • After iPhone sales did not go as planned, the novel products should boost Apple’s popularity and make the last financial quarter more successful for the tech giant.

As part of its regular retail set-up, tech giant Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is selling third-party products that should, according to the Cupertino-based Company, enhance all features that iPhones offer to the users.

That said, it comes as a surprise that the iPhone maker pulled out three major audio brands from its physical and online stores on 7 October – Logitech, Sonos and Bose.

After the news became public, tech experts started spreading rumours about the possible introduction of new Apple audio tech.

The third-party audio tech, including headphones and speakers, vanished from the online store at the end of September. Apple store employees have started pulling the products out of the shelves in the latest days.

As this news caught the public’s eye, Sonos shares have experienced a loss of 7 per cent.

AirPods 2.0?

Back in 2016, Apple made history with the invention of the first true wireless earphones – AirPods. The product changed the tech industry, and all other major tech businesses started developing similar products, and the competition intensified following the launch of AirPods.

Another major tech gadget that boosted Apple’s popularity, even more, was Apple Watch in 2015. Back then, the gadget giant also removed some third-party products from its stores before the Apple Watch launch in 2014. That is why some think why Apple might be doing a similar thing now, as it announced a special event on 13 October.

Experts believe Apple has new over-ear headphones planned, as well as a mini version of the already existing HomePod speaker. If these predictions are accurate, Apple could overtake another throne within the audio technology business and make its range of products even wider.

Bad iPhone sales

In the last couple of financial quarters, Apple has experienced a drop in iPhone sales. The slump was unexpected for the tech firm and put their budget on levels they did not think they would ever have.

That said, the new speaker and first Apple headphones could be the popularity boost the Company desperately needs after the recent financial report.

However, it is important to stress that the new audio equipment, at this stage, is an object of speculation - Apple has still not confirmed it. Some experts have guessed that the new tech is becoming due to Apple’s pattern of behaviour before new launches.

What are the characteristics of the new products?

The tech behemoth is often in an unflattering position because its products are regularly the most expensive on the market. By introducing the new HomePod speaker, some are hoping that it will be a more affordable version of the already existing audio tech. Apple is definitely expected to bring a smaller and more compatible adaptation.

Google and Amazon are Apple’s ‘worst nightmare’, as they are Apple’s biggest competitors when it comes to home speakers. Namely, the two giants account for about 80 per cent of the total smart speakers’ sale, according to the data from last year.

As most Apple heads know, the Company’s products are usually not compatible with non-Apple devices, which makes it harder for the firm to compete on the market. According to some beliefs, Apple might want to change that feature and make the new speaker available for all users, while making it cheaper.

The new over-ear headphones are highly anticipated after Apple already made history with AirPods in 2016. They are expected to have some high-quality features, such as easy pairing and a wireless connection. Apple is expected to launch a more premium version that will be more fashionable, and the other version designed for exercise and athletic activities.

However, the Company will need to show a genuinely innovative headphone design because there are already so many advanced and premium options on the market. It did prove that its audio sales are one of the most successful in the industry, as AirPods and Beats recorded 23.7 billion shipments in Q2 2020.

If Apple follows the same pattern it has in recent years, it is expected to have a significant influence on the audio industry. Other giants like Samsung and Google have already shown the level of competition they have with Apple, so only time will tell who will take the throne.
