A man has been charged with murder after his housemate was found stabbed to death at a home in far north Queensland.
Police found the 57-year-old with multiple stab wounds to his back when they arrived at the property in the Cairns suburb of White Rock about 1.30am on Wednesday.
Paramedics tried to revive him but he died at the scene.
Police arrested a 66-year-old man who also lived at the property and he was later charged with murder.
Acting Inspector Jason Chetham said the two men shared a house with a woman.
"There is no family relations but they all share the house together," Insp Chetham said.
He said police had information indicating there had been "a number of altercations and arguments" during the night and into the early morning.
Investigators will allege the 66-year-old stabbed the victim several times during a verbal dispute.
However, it was not being treated as a domestic violence incident.
Police set up a crime scene at the property and Insp Chetham urged anyone with information to come forward.
