The operators of a Melbourne restaurant have been fined $35,000 after two workers were injured in a hot oil spill.
One of the chefs was transferring oil from the deep fryers to a waste facility at The Cheeky Squire in Frankston when she tripped over a box in January 2021.
The hot oil spilled onto another chef, causing second degree burns to his legs and minor burns to his back.
He was taken to hospital and needed to undergo skin graft surgery.
The woman also sustained minor burns.
A WorkSafe investigation found staff had been using pots to move hot oil for about two months because the portable filtration system wasn't working.
The chef carrying the pot had only been working at the Frankston site for four weeks and was unaware the oil filtration machine existed.
Australian Leisure and Hospitality Group - the operators of The Cheeky Squire - last week pleaded guilty in the Frankston Magistrates Court to failing to provide and maintain a safe working environment.
The company was fined $35,000 with a conviction and ordered to pay $4409 in costs.
On Tuesday a spokesperson for Endeavour Group, which runs ALH hotels, said its priority was always the health and safety of team members and customers.
"We regret this incident occurred, and have promptly taken steps to ensure it does not happen again," the spokesperson told AAP.
