Highlights

  • FedEx workers will again start rolling stoppages next week after the pay talks did not materialise and hampered deliveries.
  • Transport Workers Union has asked for four-hour stoppages across the country next week.
  • The stoppages can continue as workers allege FedEx failed to reward them ‘properly’.

The Transport Workers Union (TWU) announced a four-hour stoppage across all states of Australia. The blockages will continue for the first three days of the upcoming week. TWU will determine further blockages after accusing the company of not correctly rewarding its workers during a record year.

On Wednesday, FedEx workers came up with a fair solution to provide them with financial security without adding costs. However, the company refused the proposal that repays its workers for their efforts during a record year of profits.

FedEx has become the only major parcel delivery operator that hasn’t reached a deal with the union.

As a result, now if FedEx doesn’t provide a fair agreement offer, FedEx workers will hold a rolling 4-hour strike across the country next week.

Moreover, the FedEx workers notified the company about the stoppages across Queensland and NSW, but the company has taken no action so far. As a result, more measures are planned across other states in the upcoming week if FedEx fails to take prompt steps despite bottlenecks.

As per media reports, FedEx reported record profits of over US$5 billion. However, it refused to pay its workers a fair amount of their performance, although FedEx awards are for employees. As a result, FedEx workers have been calling out the transport operator to work cooperatively.

According to reports, TWU national secretary – Michael Kaine said that the parcel delivery operator refused to consider a reasonable counteroffer for its workers, which didn’t even add a single cost to the company.
