Summary

  • One Planet Summit had the gathering of 50 countries that share the same goal of protecting the environment and millions of animals.
  • Australia did not take part in the event, which aimed at saving at least 30 per cent of natural surfaces and wildlife as a response to global environment.
  • French President Emmanuel Macron said the humankind could prevent catastrophic events only if it wanted to.

Australia didn’t participate in the global meet, where 50 nations took a pledge to protect the environment and wildlife from going extinct.

The committed countries decided to protect 30 per cent of the worldwide nature as a response to global warming and extinction threats for particular species.

A global summit, under the name of One Planet Summit, hosted a number of national leaders, who joined the event online via a video call.

American, Russian, Indian, and Brazilian representatives were absent from the event.

High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People, created by Britain, Costa Rica, and France in 2019, made dozens more countries gathered, who appeared dedicated to save environment from the vast impacts of global environment.

Australia was one of the countries that did not sign up for the global coalition goal. No Australian authority has responded with any comment regarding the subject.

UK Environment Minister Zac Goldsmith said the following about humans battling climate change:

According to the biodiversity report made by UN in 2019, the human activities in the current times brought the environment to the worst level than any other in the history of humankind.

More than one million wildlife species, including animals and plants, are in danger to cease to exist.

Australia is one of the few countries that has experienced at least one species to disappear off the face of the Earth in the last 10 years.

French President Emmanuel Macron commented on the current biodiversity situation:

How did the current pandemic influence biodiversity?

One Planet Summit also designed a PREZODE program, which is expected to get on the bottom line of zoonotic diseases and global pandemics.

Zoonotic diseases are illnesses that have an animal origin. More than 400 scientists around the world are actively working on finding a way to protect humans from zoonotic diseases.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said the coronavirus pandemic might be the first step in combatting similar circumstances, adding:

Other political leaders who participated in the event were Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, British PM Boris Johnson, President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, among others.
