Australian Josh Giddey and his prolific back-court partner Shai Gilgeous-Alexander have combined for 48 points but it was not enough to lift Oklahoma City to victory at home over the New York Knicks.

Giddey had 18 points, nine rebounds and seven assists and Gilgeous-Alexander top-scored for the Thunder with 30 points in the 129-119 NBA loss on Monday (Tuesday AEDT).

Jalen Brunson had a game-high 34 points for the Knicks, while Julius Randle and RJ Barrett chimed in with 25 apiece.

OKC had won their three previous games against the Knicks.

Australian rookie Dyson Daniels played his part in New Orleans' thumping 128-83 home win over the undermanned Golden State Warriors.

Daniels had nine points, five rebounds and two assists in more than 20 minutes of game-time against a Warriors lineup playing without superstar quartet Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins.

Brandon Ingram had a game-high 34 points for the Pelicans as Zion Williamson returned from a three-game absence due to a bruised foot.

Donovan Mitchell had 29 points and nine assists as the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Atlanta Hawks 114-102 in the teams' first meeting since the play-in tournament last season.

Trae Young had 25 points and 10 assists for the Hawks

DeMar DeRozan scored 28 points and Zach LaVine added 22 as the host Chicago Bulls topped the Celtics 121-107 to snap Boston's nine-game winning streak.

All attention on Wednesday (AEDT) will be on Australian Ben Simmons, who returns to Philadelphia for the first time since his controversial February departure from the 76ers.

Simmons will take good form into the clash, having scored 22 points in Brooklyn's win over Memphis on Monday.

He has looked a revitalised player since being shifted to back-up centre under new Nets coach Jacque Vaughn.

In further good news for the Australian, he will not have to contend with towering superstar 76ers centre Joel Embiid, who will miss the game with a foot injury.

Even so, Simmons is under no illusions about the hot reception awaiting him from the hostile Philly crowd.

"'I know what's coming," he told reporters with a wry smile after the win over the Grizzlies.
