We are residing in the hyper-capitalist world. Here, who earns more, owns more assets; and thus, lives a more comfortable life. We as a society have collectively chosen this kind of living, discarded the barter system and now sustained on the legal tender of money. Involvement of money does make the trade, and other activities simpler. However, it also has various disadvantages.

What is inequality? - Inequality is an unequal and unjust distribution of the available resources across people in a society. This distribution is never equal. It is based upon the available land and other resources that each person owns.

As we move further into the neo-capitalist world, the demand for progress, high-tech, luxury increases tremendously. However, this world is a drastic place, at one hand, where one country is sending its civilians to space; thousands of people in the other country are displacing because of climate change.

Inequality is a sensitive subject. There are all kinds of inequalities existing in our society. And, to break them up and understand the position of each country. Now, we have the World Inequality Report 2022.

After decades of commencement into global trade, inequality around the world is peaking high. So, now we have the report to do some analysis. The World Inequality Report 2022 includes global wealth, income, gender, and ecological inequality. The World Inequality Lab publishes the World Inequality Report 2022.

The report entails that global inequality is at an all-time high, just like it was during the western imperialism. Additionally, the data shows that the top 1% took 38% of all additional wealth accumulated since the mid-1990s; and the pandemic has made the case even worse.

The pandemic has made the living of the poor extremely difficult. Since 2020, the global income, gender and ecological inequalities have increased because of the pandemic.

The key data

The report shows that the Middle East and North Africa have the highest inequalities. Europe stands at the lowest. Additionally, private companies, MNCs are becoming richer; however, governments are becoming poorer. Thus, limited resources with the government to work towards decreasing inequalities.

On one hand, the top 1% have the global accumulated wealth of around 38%; on the other hand, the bottom 50% have the global accumulated wealth of around 2%. Look at the irony! Additionally, gender inequality is also considerable, and the progress made by countries to fight gender based inequalities is slow and inefficient.

Inequality is a social, political, developmental, economic and ecological matter. It exists everywhere, and to combat global inequality, all the aspects are essential to be worked upon. The rising inequality is a signal that the current world trade and business system is not the efficient one for all.
