Ronin Network co-founder Jeff Zirlin revealed that hackers accessed his wallets, escaping with 3,249 Ethereum (ETH) tokens worth around $9.6 million.
The fraudster sent the funds to Tornado Cash, capitalizing on the anonymity services to prevent traceability.
Zirlin explained the incident, stating that it only affected his wallets and had nothing to do with the Ronin chain’s validation and operations.
He assured investors of the platform’s stiff security protocols for chain-related undertakings. Despite the “tough morning,” Zirlin promises to keep pushing while expressing gratitude for individuals who have shown concern for his safety.
Moreover, the attacker targeted two addresses, stealing multiple assets, including AXS, USDC, RON, WETH, PIXEL, and SLC coins, worth approximately $10.46 million.
A usual occurrence?
Ronin encountered a similar event in April 2022 when hackers compromised its Ethereum bridge, resulting in the loss of digital coins worth over $600 million. Reports alleged that the notorious North Korean Lazarus Group orchestrated the attack.
Meanwhile, the team is working to prevent fallout from the latest breach as stakeholders showcase their dedication to improving safety measures for assets’ security.
Ronin Network attack comes as the crypto market rides a bullish wave, and underscores the need for heightened safety in this nascent industry.
