Tempest Minerals Ltd (ASX:TEM) has commenced fieldwork at its Mt Magnet Range Project, situated in Western Australia's Mt Magnet district. The program features rock chip sampling and detailed geological mapping aimed at refining targets ahead of upcoming drilling programs at key locations.
Recent mapping efforts and field validation of historical data have identified five high-priority gold exploration targets, suitable for reverse circulation (RC) drilling and geochemical sampling. Several of these targets have already received full approval for drilling. These targets span nearly 7 km across multiple geological settings. The five priority gold exploration targets are: Rubicon, Wrangler, Defender, Evoke and Cruiser prospects.
Overview of Five Priority Targets
- Rubicon: Sericite-altered felsic porphyry near ultramafic schists; considered highly prospective for contact-style gold mineralisation.
- Wrangler: Along-strike extension of Britannia Well mineralisation; 1g/t gold in rock chips 170m along strike from open pit.
- Defender: Historic prospecting over altered porphyry; drill testing to evaluate porphyry-granite contact.
- Evoke: ~19km granite contact showing signs of prospecting and localised shearing; potential for vein-hosted gold.
- Cruiser: Covered greenstone belt; soil sampling planned along ultramafic-basalt contact.
Strategic Location in a Proven Gold Region
Tempest Minerals’ Mt Magnet Range Project is strategically located within the highly prospective Mt Magnet gold district, a region known for its multi-million-ounce deposits with multiple open-pit active large-scale mining operations. The project is located just 5 km along strike from Ramelius Resources' +6Moz Mount Magnet Operations and spans 17 tenements across 20 km².
TEM has been actively exploring the project, with ongoing analysis of historical data leading to the identification of multiple exploration prospects. One such prospect, the Wrangler Target is located along strike from the adjacent Britannia Open Pit, hosts gold and tourmaline-bearing felsic volcanics and is now a key focus in the company’s upcoming drill program.
Current Exploration Efforts
The company has engaged geological consultants to carry out a structural and stratigraphic re-interpretation of the project’s geology. The geology of the project has been re-interpreted and re-mapped recently on the basis of verified historical data from the 1980s. The updated interpretation offers a clearer understanding of the project's geological setting, mineralisation controls, and a new interpretation that aligns more closely with the adjacent Mount Magnet and Boogardie Basin regions.
In the northwest of the project area, outcrops of porphyry were mapped and sampled (assay results pending). Early structural and alteration observations suggest this porphyry is comparable to mineralised porphyries in the Boogardie Basin and presents a target for gold mineralisation along its contact with ultramafic schists.
