The digital world we live in has left no stone unturned in creating endless possibilities for exclusive assets. And this time, the mighty US Constitution is the latest craze.

A rare 1787 copy of the US Constitution is set to be auctioned on Thursday, November 18, at Sotheby's, the fine art brokerage company. This rare first edition, one of the two copies still owned by private collectors, will now be in the hands of people.

Who's behind the crypto Constitution auction?

Constitution DAO, a decentralized autonomous organization, is behind this sale.

The group's official website 'constitutiondao.com' clearly states, "We're buying the constitution and it will be governed by the people."

Constitution DAO has already raised over US$40 million at the time of writing the article (7:30 am EST). The institution has been raising money to win the auction.

Why is this a big deal?

For the first time in over 33 years, the rare 1797 official edition of the US Constitutional Convention – one of 13 surviving copies – will be put up for auction at the Sotheby's.

The proceeds from the same will be used for charity.

Will the auction winner own the Constitution?

So, what happens after the auction is over? As per details on the ConstitutionDAO website, the auction winner will get a governance token for their donation. The token holder can advise on where and how the document should be displayed, and on the mission of ConstitutionDAO.

How to buy the US Constitution?

You can buy the Constitution with Ethereum tokens on the Coinbase platform. Copy your wallet address and select the amount you want to contribute. The donation can be made on ConstitutionDAO's site.

All donations will go to the Dorothy Tapper Goldman Foundation, a non-profit group promoting understanding democracy.

So, how much will you donate to own the exclusive copy of the Constitution?
