In order to manage and process large quantities of waste in the National Capital, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) plans to set up 9 more Decentralized Waste Management Plants. One such plant is already operational in Punjabi Bagh. Started in the month of February, the plant is currently treating 5 tonnes of organic waste per day and generating 800 units per day of electricity and around 800 kilograms per day of organic manure. The technology for the decentralized plants will be provided by Yasasu EMS Pvt. Ltd. The company has developed the product 'Yasasu Green', a containerized product to treat waste at source based on DRYCO-ADTM technology.

Yasasu Green Decentralized Solid Waste Management Plant in Delhi

There are various ways in which different kinds of waste can either be recycled or up cycled or scientifically disposed which is financially, technically & environmentally feasible. With a view to propose sustainable solution for effective waste disposal and recovery of resources, "YASASU EMS" a product line incubated by Organic Recycling Systems Pvt. Ltd. developed a packaged solid waste processing plant for processing Municipal Solid Waste.

After much recognition, under Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, Yasasu Green technology was deployed for 10 decentralized solid waste management projects by Municipal Corporation of Delhi for treating organic waste at source. Out of the 10 units, 4 units will be under South Delhi Municipal Corporation, 4 units will be under North Delhi Municipal Corporation and remaining 2 units will be under East Delhi Municipal Corporation. The units have a capacity to treat 5 TPD (tonnes per day) of organic city waste. Apart from these plants, Yasasu hosts 5 Operation plants in Varanasi and 1 in Pali Hill Mumbai.

A company spokesperson at Yasasu EMS Pvt. Ltd. said, "The first decentralized unit of 5 tonnes organic feed capacity has been installed and commissioned at Punjabi Bagh, which falls under South Delhi Municipal Corporation. The plant at Punjabi Bagh facility generates approximately 800 units per day of electricity and around 800 kilograms per day of organic manure. It is a 'plug and play' model and is a zero- charged plants with minimal requirement of water for cleaning."

The process is indigenously developed to suit Indian conditions and effectively process urban organic waste like household organic wastes, food wastes, horticultural wastes etc delivered mixed or segregated to the plant. The biogas produced on digestion which is similar to natural gas quality, can be used to produce electricity and the manure generated is of high quality which can be used from urban to rural spaces. With this solution, they are also promoting social entrepreneurship model to make decentralized waste management solution a success.
