The S&P/TSX Composite Index declined by 0.95 per cent or 181.86 points to close at 19,002.68 points on Thursday, September 22. Meanwhile, the S&P/TSX Venture Composite closed at 602.94 points, down 1.7 per cent.
The base metals sector was in the green (+0.277 per cent) as of the market close, and other sectors like Information Technology, Health Care, and Industrials were down by 2.75 per cent, 2.3 per cent, and 1.16 per cent.

Volume Active
TC Energy Corporation (TSX: TRP) recorded the highest volume as 8.82 million TRP shares traded hands on the TSX. Meanwhile, the volume of Barrick Gold Corporation (TSX: ABX) and Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX: SU) was 8.53 million and 6.59 million, respectively.
Wall Street update
The equity markets in the United States continued to decline, and the NASDAQ Composite was down by 1.36 per cent and closed at 11,066.81 points.
Meanwhile, the NYSE Composite was down by 0.84 per cent or 120.01 points to close at 14,116.59 points.
Commodities
The gold prices (for December delivery) were up by 0.24 per cent to US$ 1,679.7 per troy ounce. The WTI futures were up by 0.66 per cent and traded at US$ 83.49 per barrel.
Meanwhile, the Brent Oil Contract gained 0.7 per cent and closed at US$ 90.46 a barrel.
Currency news
The Canadian dollar against the Euro remained constant at 0.75, and the CAD/USD also remained unchanged at 0.74.
