The stock markets in Canada closed on the negative side as the benchmark equity index was down by 45.05 points and closed at 19,426.14 points. Also, the junior equity index, which comprises TSXV stocks, was down by 0.26 per cent to 595.33.
The decline came as the information technology and base metals sectors were in the red as they fell by 1.2 per cent and 0.83 per cent.
Sectors like healthcare and energy were up 4.3 per cent and 1.62 per cent.

Canopy Growth Corporation (TSX: WEED) recorded significant trading on Monday, October 1, as its price increased by about 19 per cent and its trading volume was 9.37 million.
As the energy sector also made gains, the shares of Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX: SU) recorded the second-highest volume of 8.77 million.
Wall Street update
Stocks markets in the US closed Monday's trading session down, and the NASDAQ Composite index decreased by 1.03 per cent.
Meanwhile, the S&P 500 index decreased by 0.75 per cent, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased by 0.39 per cent.
Commodities
The Gold Futures fell 0.35 per cent to 1,640.7; in the crude oil sector, WTI Futures decreased by 2.48 per cent to US$ 86.19 per barrel.
Meanwhile, the Brent Oil Contract was down by 0.97 per cent to US$ 92.86 a barrel.
Currency news
On October 31, the loonie decreased by 0.13 per cent to 0.7339.
