Electric vehicle (EV) maker Rivian Automotive Inc is stirring a lot of interest among investors off late, especially with all the rumors flying about its upcoming initial public offering (IPO) sometime in late 2021.

The company also made headlines after Amazon, in September 2019, announced its deal with to buy some 100,000 Rivian electric delivery vehicles in efforts to hit its net zero carbon emissions target. In February 2021, Rivian drew investors’ attention once again as Amazon began testing its EVs on Los Angeles roads.

Rivian IPO Date

While there has been a lot of speculation about its IPO recently, Rivian itself has not made any official announcements yet. Therefore, there is no confirmation on a date for its IPO.

Some markets experts have commented that Rivian could head for a public listing in the third quarter of 2021. On the other hand, a media report in February quoted sources to say the that the EV company is likely to go public as early as September 2021 at a valuation of around US$ 50 billion.

Rivian’s Financials

Rivian is said to have backing from major players like Amazon Inc, BlackRock and Ford Motors. As a startup, the company was reportedly valued at US$ 27.6 billion in January 2021. In the same month, Rivian raised a capital of around US$ 2.7 billion in a round of private equity funding from a host of investors led by T Rowe Price Group, as per Crunchbase.

How to Buy Rivian Stock

With Rivian still being a privately held company, its shareholders currently comprise of its founders, its employees, early investors and large corporations like Amazon, BlackRock, etc.

Investors interested in getting a piece of a privately owned company often research unlisted stocks platforms that offer shares trading services in such private firms.

There is also always the option of waiting for Rivian’s IPO, which could, as mentioned earlier, happen soon this year.

Some market and industry experts believe that Rivian could give EV giant Tesla Inc a significant competition. Considering its lists of its high-profile investors, Rivian’s IPO also have a substantial impact on its profile in the EV industry altogether.
