Erdene Resource Development signs agreement to acquire interest in Tereg Uul copper-gold prospect in Mongolia
The project lies within the Khundii Minerals District, known for its mineral-rich geology
Strategic acquisition enhances company’s presence in a historically productive region
Erdene Resource Development Corp. (TSXV:ERD), listed on the TSX Venture Composite Index, has announced the acquisition of a significant interest in the Tereg Uul copper-gold project located in western Mongolia. The company is a long-time participant in the mineral exploration and development sector in Asia, with its primary focus in the Khundii Minerals District.
Strategic Positioning in the Khundii District
The Tereg Uul project is situated in the Bayan-Ulgii province, falling within the broader geological corridor where Erdene has already identified and advanced other high-grade deposits. The company stated that the acquisition aligns with its goal of expanding mineralized zones within a favorable geological setting known for porphyry and epithermal systems.
This region is recognized for hosting multiple copper and gold systems across structurally controlled zones. The agreement secures exploration and operational rights, contributing to Erdene’s broader development strategy across the district.
Geological Features and Prospectivity
Tereg Uul is characterized by extensive alteration zones, quartz veining, and surface mineralization, which are consistent with porphyry copper and epithermal gold environments. Field studies conducted in the area revealed geologic features indicative of multiple mineralizing events.
Historical mapping and preliminary exploration activities by local operators have shown occurrences of copper oxide staining and iron-rich veins, suggesting near-surface mineralized structures. The company intends to integrate Tereg Uul into its ongoing exploration programs across its project pipeline.
Collaborative Agreements and Exploration Framework
Erdene has entered into a multi-year agreement with local stakeholders to secure access to the Tereg Uul site. The arrangement grants exclusive rights to conduct geological surveys, geophysical studies, and drilling operations across the license area. The acquisition also includes provisions for future development partnerships and the application of sustainable exploration practices.
The company is currently finalizing logistics to commence further surface sampling and geophysical work as part of its broader regional exploration initiative. The addition of this prospect complements Erdene’s ongoing development of the Bayan Khundii Gold Project and Altan Nar deposit, which remain central to the company’s long-term strategy in Mongolia.
Impact on Regional Asset Base
With the inclusion of Tereg Uul, Erdene now holds a growing land position in one of Mongolia’s most geologically prospective belts. This move enhances the company's existing mineral resource base and strengthens its regional presence across a range of copper-gold systems.
The Tereg Uul stake provides continuity across the district, enabling future programs to be scaled across multiple exploration corridors. This expanded land package increases the scope for future geological assessments and reinforces the company’s operating footprint in western Mongolia.
