Commonwealth Bank Reports a 20% drop in NPAT in FY2020 | ASX Market Update

Commonwealth Bank of Australia (ASX:CBA) released its FY2020 Results. Below is the financial summary.

Cash NPAT declined 20% to $967 million as compared to the previous year.

Statutory NPAT dropped 25% to $958 million.

Cash net interest margin reduced by 12bps to 2.11%.

Customer deposits increased 12% to $74 billion.

Funds management income rose 4% to $143 million.

Operating expenses soared 11% (cash basis).

SkyCity Entertainment Group Limited (ASX:SKC) announced that from 12 August 2020, it would close its Auckland casino and entertainment facilities. It would be implementing physical distancing & hygiene conditions at its Hamilton and Queenstown properties. Its Auckland hotels would remain open to accommodate the present guests currently staying in-house, awaiting further guidance from the New Zealand Government. The company has taken these steps a per the announcement by the New Zealand Government last night.

Russia became the first country to officially register COVID-19 vaccine and announced that it is ready for use, in spite of worldwide skepticism. Russian officials stated that proper testing of vaccine candidate had been performed and it was found to be safe. However, some researchers have raised concerns about the fast-track speed of development of Russian COVID-19 vaccine. The World Health Organization stated that approval from the WHO on a COVID-19 vaccine candidate would need a thorough safety data assessment.
