Highlights
- Exceptional Silver Grade: Barton Gold (ASX:BGD) discovers unprecedented silver grades at Tolmer.
- Impressive Drilling Results: Recent assays reveal significant gold and silver content.
- Promising Development: Continued exploration shows potential for major discoveries.
In a remarkable development in the mining sector, Barton Gold (ASX:BGD) has recently announced an extraordinary find at its Tolmer prospect located within the Tarcoola gold project in South Australia. The discovery features a staggering near-surface silver grade of 17,600 grams per tonne, an independent finding amidst a broad spectrum of lead mineralization.
The recent shallow aircore drilling results from November are turning heads in the industry, with an impressive line-up of assays. These include 11 meters at 0.73 grams per tonne gold and 165 grams per tonne silver from a depth of 9 meters, which further includes 3 meters at 2.28 grams per tonne gold and 439 grams per tonne silver from 16 meters. Additional significant assays were recorded at 17 meters with less than 0.02 grams per tonne gold and 109 grams per tonne silver from 7 meters, which also included 3 meters at 314 grams per tonne silver from 9 meters, and 6 meters at less than 0.02 grams per tonne gold and 4,747 grams per tonne silver from 46 meters, highlighting a peak of 1 meter at 17,600 grams per tonne silver from the same depth.
These findings build on the encouraging results from earlier reverse circulation (RC) drilling in January, which confirmed the presence of high-grade gold and silver mineralization. This earlier phase highlighted results such as 1 meter at 2.16 grams per tonne gold and 241 grams per tonne silver from 79 meters, and 4 meters at 24.6 grams per tonne gold and 82.8 grams per tonne silver from 95 meters, including 1 meter at 83.6 grams per tonne gold and 312 grams per tonne silver from 97 meters.
The Tolmer prospect’s mineralization is characterized by broad alteration zones that contain higher-grade quartz-sulphide veining, similar to the historically mined Perseverance open pit in the same region. This similarity points to the potential for significant gold and silver deposits, mirrored by the high levels of galena, a lead sulphide that is often associated with silver.
Alexander Scanlon, Barton Gold’s Managing Director, described the bonanza grades as an “exciting addition” to their findings. He noted the silver-dominant mineralization as a previously unrecognized feature in the Tarcoola goldfield. The exploration team has since completed an additional 2,230 meters of follow-up RC drilling to investigate potential depth extensions of the mineralization.
As Barton Gold (BGD) continues to develop its portfolio in South Australia, the ongoing exploration at Tolmer not only strengthens the company's asset base but also solidifies its position in leveraging the untapped potential of the region. The mining community eagerly awaits further updates, which are expected in the coming months, as these could herald a new era of mining exploration and development for Barton Gold.
