St George Mining (ASX:SGQ) has made a strategic move to advance its Araxá Niobium-REE Project by appointing Carlos Alberto de Araujo, an expert in niobium processing, to its engineering team. Araujo, with his extensive experience managing the design, construction, and commissioning of CBMM’s advanced niobium plant at Araxá, brings invaluable skills to the table. His work in managing industrial engineering projects at Araxá S.A. Fertilizantes, now part of Mosaic’s (NYSE:MOS) Araxá phosphate project, further strengthens his qualifications for this role.
Araujo’s deep understanding of niobium, phosphate, and rare earth elements will be essential in supporting the project’s development. He joins forces with the global Xinhai Group, which has been appointed as St George’s preferred EPC contractor, setting the stage for the creation of a highly skilled engineering team. This team will work collaboratively to expedite the design process and help establish a practical, cost-effective development plan for the Araxá Project, aiming to streamline operations and enhance project success.
John Prineas, Executive Chairman of St George Mining, expressed excitement about Araujo’s appointment, highlighting his vast experience in the neighboring CBMM and Mosaic plants. This expertise will play a pivotal role in creating an efficient engineering solution for the Araxá Project, focusing on operational excellence, safety, and reliability. The Araxá Project, located in an established mining region, benefits from access to existing infrastructure and a ready workforce, providing a strong foundation for rapid project advancement.
Additionally, the supportive permitting environment strengthens the project’s prospects, with St George Mining looking forward to a favorable outcome from an upcoming shareholder meeting in Perth. This meeting will consider resolutions related to the Araxá acquisition. If successful, the company intends to accelerate exploration and development activities on the project.
The Araxá Project is located within the Barreiro Carbonatite, a region that hosts CBMM’s world-leading niobium project and Mosaic’s (NYSE:MOS) prominent phosphate operations. Historical drilling results at Araxá have revealed substantial mineralization, including over 500 high-grade intersections, with mineralization grades reaching up to 8% niobium, 33% total rare earth oxides (TREO), and 32% phosphorous.
With Araujo’s expertise and the project’s promising mineralization, St George Mining is positioning itself to unlock significant value at Araxá in the coming years.
